Defining Build Smart: ‘A’ for Adaptable

The last few articles we have been discussing how our employees have defined each letter of our ‘Build Smart’ tagline. ‘A’ stands for Adaptable.

I find that our employees picking Adaptable is interesting. The understanding of where you can be flexible and where can’t you be is really important. I thought I might shed some light on this.

We can’t be flexible in paying people. If they are owed the money, we pay it.

We cannot pay for subpar work, PERIOD? No flexibility here.

Being held accountable to our collective word is paramount to our success. If anyone of us commits, we have to back it up. We cannot be adjustable here.

We are adaptable in how we build new homes for our clients. We are a facilitator for the interests of our clients. If they want something we will find a way to get it.

A competent workforce with adaptable skills is necessary for our longevity.

Adjusting to new conditions is the name of our game. Adjusting our values and morals to changing conditions is not. We are firm on how we conduct ourselves regardless of the economic climate or cash flow needs.

We are not flexible in being clean. It sets the tone for everything with our new home construction projects.

We can be flexible in accommodating the needs of our people. Flex hours for our workers or meeting clients at night or on weekends is in our DNA.

I am learning to be more versatile in how we communicate. It used to be real simple. Now we really focus on using multiple communication tools in order to deliver messages in a way that all of our constituents will see and comprehend.

The next series of article will describe each word associated to “Build Smart”.
