"Best Energy Efficiency"

The Entertainer is filled with family friendly comfort
and attention to livability throughout, using the highest
quality materials and workmanship. Two stories
of living area plus a full basement provide room for
entertaining, family activities, and personal space.
The exterior includes covered decks with a view of the
Columbia River, an arched timber-framed trellis for special
roses or clematis, and elegant landscaping. Gallery lighting
highlights the entryway for artwork and displays, set
against a sophisticated color palette. Notice the quality
and extensive use of custom millwork and trim throughout the
home, including wainscoting with plate rails, a built-in
entertainment center, extra deep window sills with premium
trim work, and more.
High coffered ceilings with recessed lighting add a warm,
inviting feel of open space to the living room and family
room. Italian tile surrounds a fireplace in the kitchen,
also accented by a dramatic Italian light fixture. An
archway opens the kitchen to the living areas. Honed granite
countertops are just one feature of the ergonomically
designed work centers in this warm and inviting space.
The Entertainer is designed true to its name, with a
recreation room downstairs and game room/study upstairs for
the kids, and a spacious living and dining room on the main
floor for more formal entertaining. The parlor is that extra
space perfect for the adults to set up just for themselves:
adult entertaining, a reading room, or a garden room. It can
be used for a party or for that casual cup of coffee on
Saturday mornings. These well-designed areas
provide separate spaces for all the different age groups
that form when families and friends gather together.
Not just a bedroom, the private master retreat includes a
fireplace, tremendous views of the valley, and a wrap-around
built-in bookcase. Full length mirrors and special attention
to quality lighting are highlights of the master bath.
The solid feel to this home is no illusion. Concrete
construction using ARXX insulated foam panels provides
R51-rated insulation in all the walls. Jon Girod, Quail
principal, emphasized that "the concrete construction may
cost more up front, but the monthly heating and cooling
bills will be more like a home half this size." The concrete
construction provides dense walls that create exceptional
sound barriers. "You’ll never hear the neighbor’s dog or
street noise," said Girod. "You’ll never know it’s built of
concrete from the exterior. The extra wide window sills are
the only clue." This is the only home in the show using this
construction technique, carrying out the "Built Green"
theme.
Quail Homes has been designing neighborhoods that become
communities for over fifteen years. Jon Girod, Quail’s
principal, has determined that "building a sense of
community into each neighborhood is vital to make that
street of houses feel like home." Quail builds all types of
homes, including concrete construction. "Our motto is
'Napkin sketch to reality,' and we have an in-house design
staff to make your dreams come true," said Girod. The
Entertainer is a showcase of relaxed family living space,
specially designed and built by Quail Homes.

"Best Value"

Spacious rooms, generous living areas on both levels, and a
solarium make this home a comfortable place to live, as well
as a wonderful place to gather with friends and family.
The front façade of the home is inviting, with a covered
deck on the upper level that also serves as shelter for the
front entry and porch. French doors lead out onto the
balcony from the upstairs study. The main floor of the house
is designed for entertaining and comfortable family living.
The formal areas of the living and dining rooms lead into
the spacious and more casual great room.
The kitchen boasts double ovens, a large pantry, and
cherry-stained cabinets. There’s plenty of room to gather
around the oversized granite-tiled island. Nine-foot
ceilings throughout the main floor, combined with a
multitude of windows, enhance the open and airy feeling. A
double-sided fireplace and two sets of French doors share a
wall between the great room and the solarium, a wonderful
year-round living space that brings elements of the outdoors
into the home.
Upstairs, the vaulted ceilings add spaciousness to the
overall plan. A large bonus room provides yet another family
gathering area for media entertainment, games, computers or
hobbies. The bedrooms are generous in size, complete with
double closets even in the study. The main bath upstairs
includes double sinks, a separate shower and tub, and plenty
of storage.
The master retreat, one of the larger rooms in the house,
has plenty of space for relaxing. The spacious tiled master
bath includes a large Jacuzzi tub, an oversized shower,
his-and-her sinks, and a vanity area with a large walk-in
closet.
Warm, environmentally inspired colors combined with rich
textured finishes enhance the architectural details of the
home. Sumptuous yet durable, the granite, stone, wood and
tile surfaces bring the inteior to life. Exterior patios and
an oversized garage complete the home.
Large open living spaces and kitchens tied to the living
area, as well as generous personal space for each member of
the family through larger than usual secondary bedrooms,
dens, and bonus rooms. We listen to our clients and
integrate their specific needs along with the current trends
of the building industry, in order to provide a place that
our homeowners can call home.

"Best Design"

This two-story daylight ranch style home is best described
as a Northwest modern design with an Asian flair. "Its
design incorporates simplicity by combining natural
materials with clean, crisp lines. The home is designed to
be free flowing and easy on the eyes.
Soaring ceilings, five skylights, and many windows fill the
rooms with natural light. The home’s exterior is exemplified
by the peaked roofline on the gables. There’s lapped siding,
but look for the unusual balance of the widths of the laps,
running 6"-3"- 3"-6" across the home. Enjoy the outdoors --
and the view -- on the upper level deck, 10 feet by 53 feet,
featuring vinyl decking and rails.
The stone accents on the front of the house echo the
wonderful Japanese garden-inspired dry creek bed landscape
feature in front of the home. The textures and colors of the
various plant materials are cohesive with the river rock;
watch for the way the creek crosses through the driveway and
on into the side yard. Specially designed planters accent
the driveway and parking areas.
In the family room, generous use of stone and a cherry wood
mantel draw the eyes to the fireplace. The kitchen is
designed with practical simplicity in mind. Cement
countertops team with a tile and stone backsplash for solid,
durable work surfaces. The cabinets are lightly stained to
show off the natural beauty of cherry wood and the unusual
custom design of the cabinet doors. The kitchen also boasts
Jenn Aire appliances.
Hardwood flooring throughout the home is made from bamboo,
especially chosen to complement the cabinets and theme of
the home. It's a beautiful and durable flooring material
made from a quick-growing renewable resource.
The large master suite features vaulted ceilings, a slider
to walk out onto the deck and lots of light with a view. The
spacious master bath features stone pebble flooring in the
shower and custom tile and plumbing fixtures. A skylight and
high ceilings make the bathroom light, airy and spa-like.
On the lower level of the home, a covered patio extends into
the yard, and an exercise room with hot tub will provide
hours of recreation for the family. For entertaining,
there’s a wine cellar tucked into the lower level, designed
to keep those special wines at optimum temperature so they
are aged to perfection.

"100% Built-Green"

This year, Parade organizers wanted to show off the
materials and techniques that go into building an
environmentally conscious home. What better way than to
leave parts of the walls, floors and rooms unfinished in one
home so show attendees can see the inner workings of the
construction process?
Watch for the descriptive notes throughout the home that
will explain building techniques and materials. In addition,
special events, lectures, and information will be available
on Built Green, a not-for-profit environmental building
program of the Building Industry Association of Southwest
Washington that stresses energy efficiency and the use of
recycled materials. "Built Green is designed to help Clark
County homebuyers find quality, affordable homes that offer
opportunities to protect the health of their families and
the Northwest environment," said Mary Gould of the BIASW.
To earn the Built Green designation, a home must meet
several criteria in materials, space planning, landscaping,
and technology. Examples include waste reduction by reusing
materials, energy efficiency including possible use of a
solar electric system, energy efficient appliances, 50-year
siding, and 100% formaldehyde-free insulation, among other
suggested criteria. Drought tolerant landscaping materials
and limiting hard surfaces on the grounds are other
recommended options. Learn more about environmentally sound
building practices as you tour The Columbia at the Parade of
Homes.
